Everyone must begin some share, and thus much of large directors working today started with movies of horror to weak budget.

1. James Gunn – Slither
More known under the name of the anarchistic director of the Guards of the Galaxy, Gunn cut its teeth while working for the famous factory of schlock Troma, where he wrote the scenario for Tromeo and Juliet.
Its beginnings of director were Slither, setting in the star Nathan Fillion, Michael Rooker (Aka Yondu) and Elizabeth Banks right which is not very famous. It is about an extraterrestrial invasion of parasites similar to the slugs which transform foolish people in zombies. It is really well, in fact.
2. Kathryn Bigelow - Near Dark
Well before it becomes the first (and always only) to gain the Oscar for the best director of The Hurt Locker, Bigelow burst with the horror of Western Near Dark.

6. Steven Spielberg – Duel
It is one of the largest and most important and influential administrators working today. But like all the best directors, it started in kind.
Its beginnings in the feature film were an adaptation of the history of Richard Matheson Duel, in connection with a driver on a road distance tracked by a tanker with an invisible driver. It is a thin thriller of horror and very tended that we are frankly surprised was not remade.
7. Oliver Stone – Seizure
More known for its epopees of war (Group, born on July 4th) and the political biopies (JFK, Nixon, W.), the beginnings of Stone in 1974 were seized, which he also wrote. It is a horror of the black comedy on a writer whose characters (Queen of Evil, a dwarf called Spider and a man extremely called Jackal) come to the life and terrorize its family.
It followed that with The Hand, another horror, putting in the star Michael Caine as a man whose hand was cut in an automobile accident. The hand returns to be avenged for its enemies (or it makes?). It is really better than that does not seem.
