As though set in automobile stone, their unwritten rule goes that no matter the make, Porsche 911 will always have a manual gearbox. There was much hullabaloo when Porsche introduced the Turbo and GT3, both 911s without the gearbox.
The preferable options are the Dual-clutch automatic transmissions or well-sorted conventional automatics because of their economic and environmental value. They offer short shift actions and an impressive shift from one gear to the other. The fast gear shifts and excellent performance compliment the T7-speed manual transmission.
There are a lot of features that a potential buyer looks for when buying a new ride, one being how it will perform. With an automatic and manual transmission, both connected to the 500HorsePower engine, it would take 0.6seconds less for the PDK to make 60mph.
On top of all these features, the just revealed GT3 is more track alert than its predecessor. Locking rear discrepancy and active engine build up have made the rear-wheel steering to be more or less than same although the manufacturer promises there are some pretty cool upgrades in the aerodynamics sector.
Porsche has equipped at least 85% of all the 911s produced with the PDK automatic. The charts are trending towards the south lately and the next generation 911 is not due in the market until 3yrs from now. If looking for a manual version, grab a seat and wait. 10years is a long time.
It’s such a bummer but Porsche had to put marketing first. Although there are some serious enthusiasts who get high on a good ride, the people affording these cars are those with deep pockets and all they seem to want is luxury and speed. If this is what the clientele want, the manufacturer has to give them just that.
The GT3 was launched at the Geneva Motor Show earlier in the year, a platform that saw other luxury brands like McLaren, Ferrari and Lamborghini bring out their latest gems, all that had the similar trait; an automatic gearbox. Car aficionados will argue that the ultimate automobile experience had a stronghold in the GT3 but with the manual gearbox gone, it takes the whole experience with it.
